The 2012 Eastbourne RNLI Regatta

This is our 8th year of the Eastbourne RNLI Regatta and we hope to make it the biggest and best yet because there's a lot to celebrate. Why? You'll all know that 2012 is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year and to celebrate this and honour our patron the RNLI have named a Tamar class lifeboat Diamond Jubilee. This lifeboat was delivered to her new home, here in Eastbourne at the end of May. That's not all... on top of this honour our lifeboat was part of the Queen's Pageant on the River Thames in June.
Over the August bank holiday weekend you'll be able to visit Diamond Jubilee as she will be moored at the Waterfront in the main marina. Everyone will be welcome to come aboard the newest addition to the RNLI family and see what it's like to be aboard a state of the art lifeboat - every penny we make over the Regatta weekend will go into the Appeal fund. Eastbourne Lifeboat Station was tasked with raising £700,000 towards the cost of building the Tamar. Apart from our nice new shiny Tamar... what else is new this year? We're going to have our very own Beer Festival!
We are really pleased that Eastbourne Borough Council are on board and are helping us make the event a bigger success - this is great news for us.
As in previous years, there will be a funfair and live bands performing throughout the weekend. There will be food available as well as a food and craft market throughout the weekend as well as our inaugural Beer Festival.
There will, as always, be a full programme of racing out in Eastbourne Bay, and in the Inner Harbour a local company Spray Watersports will be on hand with a fleet of dinghies for the children to try as well as some kayaks for both children and adults to have a go on, courtesy of Perception Kayaks.
We're working hard to get everything organised for the event and as things get finalised we'll keep you updated.
So please come along to the Eastbourne RNLI Regatta over the August Bank Holiday, join in the fun, come and see our new Tamar class lifeboat "Diamond Jubilee", and help us raise lots of money at the same time.
